Kathrin Isabelle Klein, Piano
Pianist Kathrin Isabelle Klein is notable for her versatility. Her predilection for modern and contemporary music was on display when she won the third prize at the International Orléans Piano Competition in 2014. She is equally at home in all other epochs of piano literature, however, and even during her school years she won numerous prizes at national competitions, including a first prize at the federal level of ›Jugend musiziert‹ in 2011. In 2017 she was awarded the Leonhard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize of the city of Munich; in 2018 she was a finalist in the lied duo category at the German Music Competition with baritone Manuel Adt, winning a special award. Apart from solo and chamber music, which she performs in different combination of instruments and as part of a scholarship from Villa Musica Rheinland-Pfalz, Kathrin Isabelle Klein has a passion for orchestral and ensemble playing. From 2008 to 2011 she was a pianist in the National Youth Orchestra of Germany and from 2014 to 2017 a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie. In the summer 2015 she participated in the Lucerne Festival Academy; in 2018 she joined its alumni ensemble. Kathrin Isabelle Klein received her first piano lessons at the age of four; from 2003 she was taught by André Terebesi at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory in Mainz. In 2015 she completed her bachelor’s degree at the Würzburg Music Academy, continuing her studies with Markus Bellheim at the Munich Academy of Music and Theatre, completing her master’s degree in July 2018. She also participated in master courses with Matthias Kirschnereit, Ian Fountain, Ewa Kupiec and in the Klangspuren Ensemble Modern Academy in 2014. From 2016 to 2019 Kathrin Isabelle Klein was a répétiteur at the Stuttgart Academy of Music and Performing Arts; since 2018 she has held the same position at the Munich Music Academy. In addition, she studied classical philology at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich from 2014 to 2020.
