Ling Zhang, percussion
Ling Zhang (b. 1998 in Chengdu) is a Chinese percussionist who began his musical training at an early age. In 2011, he entered the Secondary Music School affiliated with the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Hanyin Mo. From 2017 to 2021, he studied with Ulrike Stadler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, earning his Bachelor's degree. In 2021, he moved to Germany to study for his Master's degree with Johannes Fischer at the Music Academy in Lübeck. Ling's repertoire spans a wide range of genres, from jazz to experimental contemporary concepts. He has played with groups such as Ensemble Recherche, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Studio Musikfabrik etc., and has performed at numerous music festivals and contemporary art festivals, including the Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus in Austria, the Eigenzeit Festival for contemporary music in Duisburg, the Darmstadt Summer Courses, the Frequenz Festival for sound art in Kiel, and the PGVIS - International Symposium on Music and Interdisciplinary Studies in Bangkok, Thailand. He enjoys collaborating and improvising with musicians and artists across various forms and disciplines. In his spare time, Ling is passionate about taking photographs, especially abstract ones, and he has an interest in regional social anthropology research in the Chinese context.
